Facts About Child Care Choices
Child Care Choices is a non-profit
(501-C3 status) resource and referral agency started in 1987 as a community
attempt to meet the growing need for child care and to improve the quality of
child care.
The mission of Child Care Choices is
to identify child care providers for Miami County families and to provide child
care information, training, and support for families and child care providers.
Child Care Choices is Miami County's
only resource and referral service sponsored by the State of Ohio.
The agency assists families, child
care programs, and family child care providers in the following services:
For Parents
- educates parents on selecting
quality child care
- maintains a database of child
care options in Miami County including licensed child care centers,
preschools, school-age child care programs, and registered family child
care homes
- offers families ongoing support through parenting
newsletters, follow-up calls and phone counseling about child care
concerns.
- sends a children’s book and suggested activities to
encourage parents to read daily to their children
For Child Care Providers
- provides regular training and
technical assistance
- distributes a semi-annual newsletter
- distributes an activity packet
eight times a year with ideas and resources which the provider can use
with the children in her care
- sponsors the USDA
reimbursement program for serving nutritious meals to children in care
- recruits individuals
interested in becoming family child care providers
- sends the “Partners in Parenting” newsletter which
offers helpful information to providers to share with the parents of
children in their care
- gives each
new home child care provider a start-up kit and a “technical
assistance” visit as part of the registration process
