Preschool Milestones
As your preschooler grows, they will experience all new milestones you may feel like you’re not ready for! Don’t worry, you’ve got this. We can break down the ways your child will develop coming up. It’s important to remember that every child reaches milestones differently, and that’s ok! Your preschooler is uniquely themselves and has their own timeline for progress.
Social/Emotional Milestones
As preschoolers, they have some crucial social and emotional milestones. A few social/emotional accomplishments to keep an eye out for are:
they share and take turns during play,
they can calm down on own when upset,
they develop courtesy and manners in their interactions with others.
Cognitive Milestones
Preschoolers reach cognitive milestones that are reinforcing math and science concepts. Here are a few things to keep an eye on to track their cognitive development:
they identify types of coins like quarters, dimes, and nickels,
they connect numerals to the appropriate concrete quantities,
they grasp basic ideas of time through daily experiences,
they start to make predictions based on past observations,
they are developing an understanding of weather patterns.
Language and Literacy Milestones
Your preschooler’s language and literacy milestones takes a front seat for their development. Keep an eye out for these ways it could manifest:
they become easier to understand when talking,
they ask and answer "why" questions,
they picture-read stories with support from caregivers.
Fine Motor and Gross Motor Milestones
They continue to refine their skills as they work toward motor milestones. These are some of the ways it could present, so keep an eye out for:
they become proficient in feeding themselves,
they use buttons, snaps, and laces more adeptly,
they develop more coordinated balance,
they hold a pencil with a better grip while identifying if they are right or left handed.
